Open call: The European Pavilion 2024 – Curatorial Proposals

The call for Curatorial Proposals is now closed.

We would like to thank the 39 organisations and their partners who responded to our call with daring and diverse proposals to organise and host the European Pavilion and make it a major European cultural event in 2024.

At the end of the selection process, one of them will be awarded a grant of up to 500.000 EUR to develop and implement their project, and inspire Europeans to envision a forward-looking Europe, one that contributes to building fairer, more sustainable societies for all.

Selection process:

Applications will be read and assessed in three stages:

Stage I: a short list of up to 10 candidates based on eligibility and selection criteria is chosen internally by the European Pavilion project team.

Stage II: an independent jury selects up to 5 finalists from the shortlist.

Stage III: the independent jury interviews the finalists and selects one as the winning proposal.

The jury is made up of seven members, each with one vote, and a non-voting chair. They are professionals from a variety of cultural backgrounds, expertise and practices, from all over Europe.

Meet the jury:

Jury Chair: Sepake Angiama

Artistic director of the Institute for International Visual Art in London.

Jury member: Ferran Barenblit

Visiting professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and curator of the upcoming 16th Cuenca Biennale in Ecuador.

Jury member: Lorenza Baroncelli

Architect, urban planner expert in urban regeneration, and curator, currently Director of Architecture at MAXXI in Rome.

Jury member: Máté Gáspár

Cultural manager, university lecturer and NGO expert, currently artistic director of Budapest Brand.

Jury member: Hassan Mahamdallie

Author, commentator, playwright and theatre director, currently director of the Muslim Institute in London.

Jury member: Teja Reba

Vice-president of the Expert Commission for Performing Arts at the Ministry of Culture and member of the Expert Group for the Strategic Development of Contemporary Dance in Slovenia.

Jury member: Françoise Vergès

Writer, political theorist, antiracist feminist and independent curator.

Jury member: Olga Wysocka

Cultural manager and political scientist, currently director of the Warsaw Observatory of Culture (WOK).
