From co-developing Erasmus to evacuating artists and collections in Ukraine, your help has been enabling the delivery of hundreds of cultural projects across Europe for more than 70 years. We need your help to continue providing vital funding and support for cultural projects, places and people during these challenging times.

February 2026

As you will know, Ukrainians -and Kyiv in particular- are once again experiencing extraordinarily difficult times. Extreme cold and prolonged power outages have made daily life close to unbearable.

Therefore, in February 2026 we will spend every euro donated to us to prepare and ship packages of essential items -such as portable power sources and heating equipment – to our two Ukrainian partners in our latest Culture of Solidarity programme:

Culture Helps Solidarity / Культура допомагає: Солідарність is a Creative Europe–funded programme -running from October 2025 until March 2028- that empowers Ukrainian arts and cultural professionals to sustain creativity, resilience, and community connection during and after the war. This programme brings together the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam), Insha Osvita (Kyiv), zusa (Berlin), and the Veteranka movement (Kyiv), a pioneering NGO advocating for female war veterans.

Our Impact

With your help, over the years we worked with more than 500 organisations across more than 30 countries across Europe, impacting the lives of Europeans of all ages and backgrounds. Examples include:

IMAGO Animation Studios (Ukraine)

ECF's Culture of Solidarity Fund supported the creation of animated short films to support mental health of Ukrainian children affected by the war. Bringing together volunteers, psychologists, animators, screenwriters, directors and sound producers, IMAGO Animation Studios created “Graphics Battalion’’ – an animated short film series aimed at children whose lives changed overnight when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund

Culture of Solidarity funding enabled the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund to provide everyday necessities for cultural workers and artists at the start of the war in Ukraine, ensuring a basic standard of living and security. Our funding also allowed them to support Ukrainian cultural workers who have relocated abroad, ensuring they could continue with their work despite the difficult circumstances.

Walk with Amal (UK)

“Support from the European Cultural Foundation enabled us to produce The Walk – a theatre project featuring Little Amal, a 3.5 metres tall puppet of a 9-year-old girl. Walking 8,000 kilometres across Europe in search of her mother, Amal’s journey during the Covid-19 pandemic was enabled by relays of puppeteers. In a visionary act of solidarity with the plight of refugees, the project bore a single message on behalf of thousands of displaced children: Don’t forget about us.“

Libraries Without Borders (Poland)

“Libraries Without Borders provides books and educational materials to asylum seekers and refugees in Poland, now including many Ukrainian refugees. Refugee facilities in Poland are overcrowded, dangerous and depressing. Books provide a lifeline to many refugees who feel insecure, lonely, isolated and abandoned. With the European Cultural Foundation’s support through the #EuropeChallenge, we are reimagining how our library can support refugees by providing books and educational materials in their native languages.”

Union of Justice (UK)

"At Union of Justice, our motto is ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’. We believe that we cannot talk about the climate crisis without recognising that it is also an inequality and race issue. Funding from the European Cultural Foundation allows us to continue our work as the only European, independent, people of colour (POC) led organisation dedicated to both racial and climate justice.”

La Biblioteca Jordi Rubió i Balaguer (Spain)

"Participating in the ECF's Europe Challenge has helped our local library to create a new vision for our city Sant Boi de Llobregat, just miles from Barcelona’s busy international airport. By exploring urban beekeeping and the creation of green corridors at our library, we were able to champion biodiversity and experiment with our communities on ways of greening our city."

ŒNOPE - Borderless European Wine (France)

The concept of the borderless European wine was born from the question: “What will be the wine of tomorrow?” Recognising that wine growers around Europe are facing similar problems (e.g. overstock due to Covid-19, climate change), the European Cultural Foundation’s support enabled the ŒNOPE team to buy wine overstock from vineyards across Europe. They then crafted 10.000 bottles of a unique pan-European blended wine, while allowing wine growers to meet and exchange their experience.

European Review of Books (Netherlands)

Funding from ECF's Culture of Solidarity Fund enabled the launch of a brand-new, multi-lingual, pan-European magazine of culture and commentary: the European Review of Books. Available in print and online, the European Review of Books is committed to a literary culture beyond the nation and the metropole. It is a magazine for great original essays and criticism in both English and in writers' mother tongues.
