The Supervisory Board of ECF works closely with the management. Their responsibilities can be summarised as follows:
- decide upon and evaluate the Foundation’s strategy, and prioritise its activities;
- evaluate the efficient use of the Foundation’s resources (approval of budget and Annual Report);
- appoint the Foundation’s Director, members of the Supervisory Board and the Honorary President.
The Supervisory Board meets at least twice a year. It consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of twelve members, including a Chair, Vice-Chair and Chair of its Finance Committee.
Members of the Supervisory Board are broadly representative of the wider Europe and of the disciplines and fields of activity related to our goals. They receive no remuneration for their activities on behalf of the Foundation but are entitled to reimbursement for the costs they incur in the performance of their duties. These reimbursements are listed and explained in the Annual Report.
In 2025, the Foundation amended its Articles of Association to further align with its evolving mission and governance needs.

The Supervisory Board of the European Cultural Foundation works in close collaboration with the management team. It is responsible for shaping and overseeing the Foundation’s strategic direction, ensuring the effective use of its resources, and safeguarding its mission. This includes:
Approving and reviewing the Foundation’s long-term strategy and key priorities;
Evaluating the efficient use of resources, including approving the annual budget and Annual Report;
Appointing the Foundation’s Director, members of the Supervisory Board, and the Honorary President.
The Supervisory Board meets at least twice a year and consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of twelve members, including a Chair, Vice-Chair, and the Chair of the Finance Committee. Its composition reflects the diversity of wider Europe and the fields of work connected to the Foundation’s goals.

The Supervisory Board consists of:
