FILM IT – FilmWorkshop for Kids from Ukraine and Germany
Ukrainian animation filmmaker Sofiia Melnyk and German documentary filmmaker Benjamin Rost organize a mobile film workshop in Germany for newly arrived Ukrainian children and those who already live in the country. As part of a two-day workshop, the children learn how to create animated or documentary films that are shown at the end online at a specially created Instagram Festival Channel. The workshop takes place with minimal equipment (phones, tablets, drawing tabs) and can be repeated in different cities. The aim of the workshop is to build bridges between children who live in Germany and the newly arrived Ukrainians. Through the medium of film, they learn to communicate despite language barriers, they develop friendships that help the Ukrainian children to ‘arrive’ – and find expression for what moves them.
