Naturschutzstation Osterzgebirge – Crossing borders for the future in Eastern Ore Mountains

28 Oct 2021

The region of the Eastern Ore Mountains was hit hard after WWII and after the fall of the Berlin Wall by the consequences of economic and social transformation. Since the permanent opening of the border, connections with the neighbouring country had been in the process of a slow re-establishment and trust in joint initiatives had been growing. The corona crisis and  associated closure of border has thrown the region back into uncertainty and special attention is required to strengthen this region again. The project by Naturschutzstation Osterzgebirge builds connections between local actors, communities and with the natural and cultural history of the region. The project assumes that a former place of pilgrimage which was incorporated into Czech territory, becomes a meeting place. An important part of the project is the revitalization of the meeting place with new cultural educational content aimed at different target groups.
