“War on Culture – Culture at War”

17 Apr 2023

Ukrainian artists and the cultural world have joined the civil resistance to the Russian aggressor by pursuing their work in spite of the war. The National Philharmonic orchestra keeps playing on despite power cuts. Painters, writers, dancers, filmmakers or playwrights work tirelessly, helping with their art to support the collective resistance and to depict the war crimes against their fellow citizens in various forms. All the more so as the war is clearly aimed at destroying Ukrainian culture in all its forms, since the aggressor denies the existence of a distinct Ukrainian history, culture and identity.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB), with the collaboration of Museums for Ukraine and Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, have organized this conversation with distinguished Ukrainian artists and our director, André Wilkens as a guest speaker.

You can watch the live stream in Spanish on the CIDOB Barcelona youtube channel here and in English here.
