Reading as Care and Resistance
3 Jun 2025
At this year’s Forum on European Culture—running 25 to 29 June in Amsterdam—we’re spotlighting writers and artists who are using their voices to confront indifference, build bridges, and defend democracy. Supported by our Culture of Solidarity Fund, the Forum examines how culture can counteract rising division and disillusionment.
On 28 June, join the European Literature Night: Against Indifference. Organised with EUNIC Netherlands, the evening brings together authors and cultural organisations from across Europe—including the Goethe Institut, British Council, Institut français, Embassy of Ukraine, Polish Culture NL and others—for a robust conversation about care, courage, and connection.
Inspired by Alicja Gescinska’s call to “empathy against indifference,” the event asks: Can literature help us care better for each other, and Europe?
