Make culture central in the EU Recovery and ‘A Cultural Deal for Europe’
4 Nov 2020
With our European societies going through unprecedented turmoil the European Commission decided upon an ambitious recovery and resilience plan. Together with more than hundred pan-European cultural networks and associations, we call upon the EU and national governments to protect cultural and creative sectors with it.
We ask the EU and its Member States to place culture at the core of each and every recovery plan, which aims at a sustainable, inclusive and future-looking revival of our social and economic life. And to allocate 2% of the national recovery and resilience facility budget to the cultural and creative sectors.
In an open letter – sent out to the EU Commission and EU Member States – over 110 signatory organisations urge that cultural and creative sectors are consulted in the design of and integration in the national recovery and resilience plan of their respective countries.
In an online event – A Cultural Deal for Europe – A central place for culture in the EU’s post-pandemic future – organised by Culture Action Europe (CAE), European Cultural Foundation, and Europa Nostra we focus on the same subject. On November 18 together the cultural sector and European policymakers engage into dialogue, share ideas and co-develop strategies together for ensuring the central role of culture in the future of Europe.
