How Should Independent Journalism Travel Across Europe?

Most of the news people read online is shaped by algorithms designed to keep people clicking, not to help them understand the world. Independent journalism from smaller publishers often struggles to reach beyond its own language, country, or community, even when the stories address questions shared across Europe.

A democratic Europe needs a different kind of public space: one where people can encounter reliable journalism, recognise shared concerns, and follow conversations across borders without relying solely on corporate platforms or opaque algorithms.

This is why Display Europe exists. Initiated by the European Cultural Foundation (ECF) and developed alongside the Shared Digital European Public Sphere coalition, the platform brings together independent and community-driven journalism from across the continent. AI-powered translation makes stories available in multiple languages and helps smaller media outlets and content creators reach people they could not easily reach on their own.
