Europeday Online Festival 2020
9 May 2020
9 May is Europe Day, celebrating 70 years of peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical ‘Schuman declaration’. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which led to the longest-lasting period of peace and prosperity in European history.
Schuman declared “Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity.” We believe a European sense of belonging and solidarity is more important now than it has been in a long time. This is why amid the Corona pandemic, we are convinced celebrating our continent, in all its forms and expressions and with all its shortcomings, is essential.
Therefore we transformed the festive physical celebration of Europe day 2020 into a digital celebration, where we offered a series of windows that allowed you to imagine, experience and share our Europe through the projects of contributors and ourselves.
