Ethics, Power and Trust in the Digital Age
21 Apr 2025
Free, trustworthy journalism is essential to a democratic Europe. Display Europe hosted a networking event at the International Journalism Festival held in Perugia, Italy, from 9–13 April 2025, gathering journalists under the theme: “Ethics, Power and Trust in the Digital Age.”
Display Europe is a growing alliance of public service media, independent publishers, and civic technologists working to build a more democratic, open, and people-powered European media space.
As political power and digital platforms become increasingly entangled, and private interests shape the flow of information, these journalists are working to reshape the media landscape. Together, they explored urgent questions: How can we reclaim ownership of online information? What does trust in journalism mean beyond the influence of Big Tech? How do we build a European media space rooted in public values, real independence, and transparency? Click here to read more in Display Europe’s newsletter.
The conversations in Perugia didn’t just highlight risks—they reflected a collective drive toward a more democratic, people-centred digital future. Display Europe’s work echoes the European Cultural Foundation’s broader vision: building open, resilient spaces where culture, knowledge, and solidarity empower Europeans to shape their shared future. Through initiatives like Display Europe, we are strengthening Europe’s public sphere—making connection, collaboration, and hope more powerful than division.
