Water Conservation Cultural Landscape and Bedouin Heritage Under Threat

1 Nov 2023

The project ‘Water Conservation Cultural Landscape and Bedouin Heritage Under Threat‘ addresses the imminent threat posed to the Bedouin communities of the village of Al Fur’a and its surroundings, near the town of Arad, by a large, planned phosphate strip mine and aims to empower local communities, protecting their heritage and highlighting issues of water insecurity. It will employ a method called Environmental Reconciliation, involving a commoning perspective and public participation through creative engagement and cultural mediation. Activities include onsite research, field trips, workshops with locals, the co-creation and presentation of artworks and the digital mapping of the water-conservation cultural landscapes and the project’s research and outcomes, all in collaboration with Common Views collective. Partner Biosphere Reserves Institute contributes to cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing, emphasizing the interconnectedness of local challenges with regional and global ones.
