Democracy Institute of Central European University – DemocraTease: Democratic Participation through Artistic Thinking

DemocraTease wants to explore democratic participation, civic engagement, and artistic expression by involving university students in art practices. DemocraTease will develop an interdisciplinary module titled ‘Artistic Thinking, Social Engagement’ designed for university students across various fields. It will employ a range of creative and artistic methodologies to address contemporary issues, historical contexts, and cultural themes through art. Through this collaboration between the CEU Democracy Institute, CEU’s Civic Engagement Art and Culture Unit, and the Independent Art Department Association (a NGO), the project will address themes such as democratic conduct and resilience, identity, activism, and disinformation. DemocraTease encourages critical engagement with democratic processes through interdisciplinary learning and artistic collaboration. The program will build a student community that contributes to democratic dialogue and cultural policy, culminating in a presentation of collaborative artworks, and the creation of acamemic-level learning modules.
