Protest art’s role in the Belarusian revolution

27 May 2021

Belarus is in a new global spotlight, following the forced landing of a commercial flight to arrest and detain an opposition blogger from a commercial Ryanair flight. This incident comes less than a year after a violent crackdown on the post-election protests movement of 2020.

Our annual magazine, Common Ground, features pieces on the role of protest art in the Belarusian revolution. From a choir staging performances, singing in a shopping mall in front of a three-storey-long national flag, to the creation of online protest art galleries in reaction to censorship and escalating repressions.
