AI for a Shared European Public Space

13 Oct 2025

The Council for European Public Space (CfEPS), supported by the European Cultural Foundation, has welcomed the European Commission’s new Apply AI and AI in Science strategies. Both recognise the role of multilingual AI in strengthening democracy by making reliable information accessible to everyone, regardless of language or location.

The proposed European infrastructure would translate and connect professional media content in real time, helping citizens engage with shared facts and debates. It is an idea long championed by CfEPS and supported by Members of the European Parliament, including Dr Christian Ehler, President of the Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA) research facility. STOA studies have already shown that such systems are both feasible and highly effective in social terms.

With the Commission’s backing, CfEPS and its partners are now preparing to implement this vision. The goal is a European public space where technology serves participation, trust, and cooperation.
