Who is shaping the internet? The market dominance of big tech is causing great digital dependency among citizens and governments. Through social media, propaganda and disinformation are having an increasing impact on democracy, and as the power of big tech becomes increasingly intertwined with political power, we are seeing the consequences worldwide. A strong voice of dissent is essential!
The conference will be opened by Canadian tech critic and writer Paris Marx, known for the award-winning podcast Tech Won’t Save Us. Marx will talk about the importance of digital sovereignty and the politics of technology.
Furthermore, expect a varied programme with speakers and makers from home and abroad, discussing a wide range of themes. These include exploring the European position within the internet, alternative social media, democracy and disinformation, and AI for the public good. In the corridors, you can browse the Bazaar, where developers and providers of public-value-driven software, tools and services will present their products.
As European Cultural Foundation – besides being the main supporter of the conference – we host two dedicated sessions – learn more here.
