IDFA screening ‘Militantropos’ followed by conversation

It’s four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In collaboration with the International Documentary Film Festival we screen Militantropos. It’s the title of this film – “a persona adopted by humans entering a state of war” – exposing how the Russian war on Ukraine permeats all facets of life in Ukraine.

Following the screening we present a conversation between representatives of two of ECF’s Ukrainian partners in the Culture Helps Solidarity programme: Insha Osvita, a NGO which “brings education back to life and life back into education” and helps communities become self-sustaining; and the VETERANKA Movement, which “supports women in the military, protect the rights of women in the security and defense forces, and help women veterans return to civilian life.”

Culture Helps Solidarity empowers Ukrainian arts and cultural professionals to sustain creativity, resilience, and community connection during and after the war. Since 2014 millions of Ukrainians have faced displacement and loss. Cultural professionals—artists, curators, museum workers, and educators—have become key agents of care, resilience, and social cohesion. Culture Helps Solidarity builds on this spirit, strengthening their capacity to continue this vital work within Ukraine and across Europe.
