On 8 May 2026, the European University Institute hosts EUIdeas: The Power of Knowledge in Florence, marking its 50th anniversary with a full-day public event at Badia Fiesolana. The programme brings together academics, policymakers, civic actors and citizens to explore how knowledge operates across Europe’s most pressing challenges.

Discussions span academic freedom, climate governance, migration, artificial intelligence and the role of culture. Contributions from speakers including Siofra O’Leary and Roxana Mînzatu anchor the programme, alongside exchanges that connect research with public debate. The European Cultural Foundation and European Council on Foreign Relations will take part, bringing perspectives shaped through their joint European Sentiment Compass, which tracks how belonging, trust and values are evolving across the continent.

Open to all upon registration, the event creates space to engage with ideas, follow conversations that reflect Europe’s current trajectory, and connect across disciplines. The programme is complemented by informal moments throughout the day, including networking, a tasting of local products and a performance by the EUI Choir.
